The Giving Café, also known as TGC: A Social Enterprise, is a newly-opened café along Sheridan Street, Mandaluyong.

This quaint and homey café was opened by the owner of Henry & Sons PH (a well-known coffee equipment manufacturer) to support local coffee growers in La Trinidad, Benguet. For every coffee sold, 1% of the proceeds will go to FSCE — Foundation for Sustainable Coffee Excellence. It is a non-government organization with the aim of bringing the Philippines back in the spotlight globally through sustainable farming.

Homey vibe

From the outside, it wouldn’t look like a café at first with its brick walls, quotations, and artsy stuff. But once you’re inside, it’s a charming café with ample seating, a reading nook and a coffee bar where you can see your coffee being prepared in front of you.

Reading nook

We visited TGC one lazy Sunday afternoon. The place is well-lit with a homey vibe, perfect for coffee dates or for a peaceful me-time. Being bookworms, we really loved their reading nook! During the afternoon, natural light comes through the transparent window which is perfect for good reading sessions. During the evening, it’s a nice spot to just sit, think, and relax while enjoying a warm cup of coffee. They have a great collection of books, from Paulo Coelho’s classics to Lang Leav’s poetry. Our bookworm selves are rejoicing!

We ordered Hot Mocha (P95), Wintermelon Milk Tea (P105) and Flat White (P95). As we were already full from lunch, we just opted to order several finger food to go with our drinks — Rosemary Bacon Popcorn (P130) and Crunchy Nachos (P185).

The coffee, as expected, was amazing. The chocolate notes in the Mocha were very evident and well-complement the bitter aftertaste of the espresso. The Flat White was good too. It was relatively strong but we like our coffee that way. Price point is good! One cup of coffee is just around P95-P150. You’d get great coffee and at the same time, supporting a cause.

The Rosemary Bacon Popcorn was HUGE. Believe us when we say it’s huge, IT’S HUGE. Bet it’s good for 4-5 people. We really loved this one, it’s like your regular popcorn but fancier. The rosemary butter wasn’t too strong – just enough to create a nice flavorful kick. We also enjoyed the generous amount of bacon bits in it. Order this if you’re planning to stay long and do some work.

We stayed at The Giving Café for the rest of the afternoon until early evening. Ecstatic that we found this new gem, perfect for coffee enthusiasts like us! And remember, every cup of joe you enjoy is a huge help to our local coffee farmers.

Always remember
